Our terrariums are just like a little mini garden inside the home, and are super easy to look after! Here are a few tips to keep it looking lush and green.
How often should I water my terrarium?
The secret to a gorgeous, healthy terrarium is to not over water! It should be kept damp, but not wet. During colder winter months, water once every 7 days. In the summer or if you keep your terrarium in a toasty warm room, you may need to water your terrarium twice a week.
How much water should you use?
Smaller terrariums require about a third to half a cup of water every 7 days. For larger terrariums, pour half to three quarters of a cup of water over the soil.
Use a spray bottle to mist the soil between watering and keep everything damp.
You will be able to tell if you are over watering if you can see a lot of water pooling in the bottom of the terrarium – hold off any more watering until the charcoal has been able to soak it all up and then return to your normal watering schedule.
Where’s the best spot to place my terrarium?
Pick a spot that is brightly lit but not in direct sunlight as this could burn the plants. Early morning and winter sun are perfect. Occasionally rotate the terrarium to make sure plant growth is even.
Keep your terrarium looking healthy by removing any dead leaves. If a plant is getting tall and spindly, trim the top leaves so it fills out.
